Berkeley, California – October 27, 2019

The CARESTAR Foundation is happy to announce that Jodi Ravel has been hired as the first Program Officer to join the CARESTAR team.

Ravel’s career in public health and philanthropy includes serving for a decade as a Program Officer for the Kaiser Permanente Community Benefit Programs across Northern California. Prior to that, she held the role of Executive Director of Women Against Gun Violence in Los Angeles. She has also worked with the Institute for Health Policy Studies at UCSF and for Youth ALIVE! in Oakland. Ravel holds an MPH from UCLA and a BA from UC Berkeley. Her passion is in the areas of prevention, health equity, and community resiliency.

“Jodi brings exactly the kind of background, experience and enthusiasm that will help us move CARESTAR’s mission forward. We work to strengthen connections and foster partnerships in California’s injury prevention, emergency response and trauma care landscape. Jodi will oversee our increasing roster of grants, and as she knows this field well, she will be a key player for CARESTAR as we support innovation and improvement in delivery of emergency and trauma care.”

Ravel comments, “I’m excited to join the Foundation, particularly in this start-up phase, to help grow the partnerships and portfolio of grants that will support deep and powerful improvements in injury prevention and trauma care across California. I am particularly motivated by CARESTAR’s focus on supporting connections and communication across entities and systems, as I believe these are essential to enhancing the health and safety of our communities.
